In a bold political shift, a coalition of concerned political actors, civil society leaders, and patriotic citizens has announced its decision to align with the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing widespread governance failures in Yobe State and Nigeria at large.

In a Press briefing at NUJ Secretariat in Damaturu, the coalition leader Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Jawa explained that the move followed extensive consultations and sincere dialogue with stakeholders across the state and beyond.

He emphasized that the defection was driven by a sense of responsibility rather than personal ambition.

“We are stepping forward because silence is no longer an option. Our people are suffering, and the current leadership has failed them on all fronts,” he declared.

Jawa highlighted key issues driving their decision: “The government has failed in its primary duty of protecting lives. Insecurity has become a daily reality, with kidnapping, banditry, and violence rising across the nation.

“The security forces are underfunded, ill-equipped, and demoralized—a result of poor political leadership, not a lack of bravery.

“Thousands have been displaced, reduced to living as internally displaced persons (IDPs) in their own homeland.”

“The public education system is in ruins, with dilapidated infrastructure, underpaid teachers, and bleak prospects for the next generation.”
