Babangida urges prayers for Nigeria’s unity

Date:

Former Military President, Ibrahim Babangida, has urged religious groups to sustain prayers for the continued unity and existence of Nigeria.

He made the call when members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) visited him in Minna on Tuesday to felicitate him on his 84th birthday.

“I must say that the prayers of both Christians and Muslims have been very effective in holding the country together,” Babangida said.

He appealed to religious leaders in Niger to uphold cordial relations between Christians and Muslims, stressing its importance for the nation’s progress and development.

According to him, the unity and survival of Nigeria rest largely in the hands of Christians and Muslims.

He further emphasised the significance of interfaith dialogue and prayers in sustaining peace, unity, and national development.

Earlier, CAN Chairman in Niger, Rev. Bulus Yohanna, said Babangida’s life had been blessed with love and admiration from many quarters.

Yohanna, represented by his Vice, Rev. Joshua Markus, prayed for Babangida’s continued good health, noting his vision and contributions had left a lasting impact across several sectors.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that special prayers were offered for Babangida’s long life and more fruitful years.
