Mokwa flood: 75-80% survivors received food, cash

At least 75-80 percent survivors of Mokwa flood victims have received food items and cash in Mokwa local government area of Niger state.
The leader of Hausa community, Alhaji Tanko Bala, disclosed this while speaking to journalists in Mokwa.
He noted that 70-80 percent of the survivors have received cash and food items from the Niger State government, donor agencies and spirited individuals across the country.
According to him, “Those that have not received are about 20- 25 percent. There are surviving victims that quickly rushed out of the town to seek soccur in the nearby villages while some traveled to their states of origin”.
Similarly, the Secretary Mokwa local council, who served as Chairman, relief committee on Mokwa flood, Alhaji Dauda Liman, emphasized that federal and Niger State government as well as NGO’s have put smiles on the faces of the survivors with their donaions
He revealed that so far, the committee has distributed cash and other relief items to first and second batch of the affected victims, adding that the exercise is still on course.
Dauda Liman confirmed that the committee had officially recorded 458 households, and each have received, One Million Naira (N1million) each, while appealing for patient, said that every victims that was not capture in the first and second batch, would be capture in the third batch.
He added that they recorded 424 of Houses and Shops destroyed and the owners have received Five Hundred Thousand Naira (500,000:00) each, just as 138 death recorded with each deceased persons were given One Million Naira (N1million) received by their next of keens.
The duo and survivors in their separate interview thanked the state government, officials of NSEMA among others for their quick intervention and ensuring that cash and foods interventions were prudently distributed to cushion the impacts of the flood disaster. While they appealed to federal government to promptly redeem it’s earlier pledged of constructing a new homes for the survivors.
Earlier in his remarks, the NSEMA Director, Relief and Rehabilitation, Salihu Garba, hinted that the success story of the organization in the handling of Mokwa disaster could be attributed to the synergy between NSEMA and Community Based Organizations. Adding that complaints will be forwarded to government for consideration.
