Benue Assembly suspends former Speaker for three months

The Benue State House of Assembly on Tuesday suspended the immediate past Speaker, Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh for three months, just a day after he resigned his position.
The House took the decision during its plenary presided over by the new Speaker Alfred Emberga.
They alleged that the former Speaker plotted to impeach the Governor.
They accused Dajoh of summoning a meeting last Thursday which was attended by many members in a bid to impeach the Governor, an act that would have caused big political crisis in the State.
Motion to suspend Dajoh was moved by Emmanuel Shimawua representing Vandeikya Kyan state Constituency and seconded by Abu Umoru James representing Apa constituency.
The two members were recalled from suspension on Sunday.
During its sitting, the house also re-screened and confirmed two comimissioner-nominees including Prof. Timothy Yangien Ornguga and Mr. James Dwen that were earlier rejected by the former Speaker on the directive of the Governor.
It was learnt that Governor Alia had written to the House stating that no competent court has indicted the two of any wrong doing and as such, they should be considered for Commissioner positions.
The house also, recalled the State Universal Basic Education Board Chairman Mrs Grace Adagba alongside the Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Mr. Maxwell Ogiri and the State Lottery/Sporting Board Executive Secretary Mr. Michael Upper after they had written letters of apology to the house.
