Invent adaptable strategies in combating kidnapping, others -Wike urges G-7 States Tech. C’ttee

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has charged members of the Technical Committee of the G-7 States to come up with most adaptable strategies in combating cross-border crimes, and deploy same for the safety and security of Abuja, and the states contiguous to the FCT.
Wike also charged them to make maximum use of collaboration as strategy for the multipliers benefits of providing security to all and sundry.
The minister gave the charge in his remarks presented by FCT Head of Civil Service, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, at the opening ceremony for the G-7 meeting held Thursday, at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre, Jabi-Abuja.
He explained that Technical Committee of the G-7, which comprises Commissioners of Police, State Directors of Security, Commandants of NSCDC of Benue, Kaduna, Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau states, and the FCT periodically hold joint meetings to appraise the prevailing security challenges and articulate an agenda of action and operation order for the consideration and support of the Chief Executives of the G-7 States.
According to him, following the successes recorded in control of criminal activities in the FCT and the criminal elements traversing its adjourning states, a decision was taken at the FCT Security Committee Meeting of 5th August, 2025 to reconvene the meeting of the G-7, to review the current security situation with the view to proffer appropriate operational arrangement to address same.
“Security, as we are all aware, is a fundamental pillar upon which any thriving society is built. It is an essential component that ensures the safety, well-being, and prosperity of our citizens.
“This meeting, therefore, marks yet another significant watershed in our commitment to providing a holistic approach to our security architecture for effectively delivery. In a rapidly evolving world, the nature of threats and challenges has become increasingly complex and dynamic.
“Criminal elements have adapted and exploited technological advancements to further their illicit activities, thus requiring such a dynamic approach like synergy and joint operations among other strategies to overcome the exploits of criminally minded individual.
“To combat the identified challenges, it is imperative that our security agencies have access to modern technics and strategies amongst which is “Joint Operation Strategy’” to effectively curtail the forays of criminal elements at all levels.
“It is our duty to empower our Security Agencies with the necessary tools to protect lives and property, maintain law and order, and ensure the peace and tranquility of our immediate environment in particular and the country in general.
“It is worthy of noting, here, that the collaboration between the FCT Administration and the security agencies has been instrumental in deploying vital resources in combatting crimes and criminality in the FCT and its contiguous states”, the minister stated.
Earlier, the Director, FCTA Security Services, FCTA and Secretary of the G-7 Committee, Adamu Gwary, noted that the meeting was convened due to reports of security concerns around the fringes of the FCT especially the Northern and Southern parts of the Territory and its contiguous states of Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi and Kaduna states.
He reiterated resolve to re strategize on robust implementable and sustainable measures to heinous crimes such as kidnappings, banditry, drugs and human trafficking, car snatching, religious extremism, and activities of illegal miners.
In his welcome remarks, FCT Police Commissioner, Ajao Adewale, stressed the need for deeper inter-agency collaboration and sustained intelligence sharing, as cross-border crimes cannot be fought in isolation, but through intelligence-driven collaboration.
Adewale, who is also the chairman of the G-7 meeting, opined that sustaining such measures will ensure the safety and security of residents across the FCT and its neighboring states.
