In furtherance with commitment to inclusive development, the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike has flagged-off the emergency construction and dualisation of Karu road, from Karu interchange to Customs Clinic Junction in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
Performing the official flag-off yesterday, Wike assured that the project will be completed and inaugurated by June, 2026, as part of activities to mark the 3rd anniversary of President Bola Tinubu in office.
He noted that Karu had long suffered neglect, but assured residents that the area would soon witness a transformation with modern roads, streetlights, and improved business opportunities.
He cited the completed Nyanya, Karshi road as an example of the administration’s commitment to easing movement and boosting socio-economic life in the suburbs.
The minister, also commended the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, for persistently advocating for the rehabilitation of the Karu road.
He further disclosed that, in addition to the Karu dualisation, other roads would be rehabilitated, including:Customs Clinic Junction to CBN Quarters Junction, Customs Clinic Junction to EFCC, NIA Quarters Road, Karshi Road and Primus Hospital Road.
“These projects will all be delivered within 10 months”, Wike assured, adding that contractors had already been mobilized and payments made.
He urged the community, especially youths, to protect the projects and participate in their execution through supply and labour opportunities.
He reiterated the commitment of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to extend development to both the city centre and satellite towns of Abuja.
“When you elect people, hold them accountable. Mr. President promised to develop Abuja and its satellite areas, and today we are here to fulfil part of that promise”, he told the jubilant crowd.
Furthermore, the minister assured residents that he would personally monitor the project’s progress to ensure timely delivery, stressing that the Renewed Hope Agenda is about “bringing back hope to the people.”
Similarly, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as life-transforming, noting that it would significantly decongest traffic between Karu and other parts of Abuja.
She thanked President Tinubu for prioritising infrastructure in the FCT and lauded Wike’s “pragmatic leadership” in driving modernization across satellite towns.
Earlier while giving an overview of the project, the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Hon. Abdulkadri Zulkiflu explained that the project, to be executed by Abdul Val Nigeria Limited, will cover a 5.4-kilometre dual carriageway with culverts, lined drains, walkways, solar-powered streetlights, and asphalt layers.
He emphasized that the initiative would complement the already rehabilitated Nyanya–Karshi road and enhance free traffic flow within the axis.
On his part, the Managing Director of Abdul Val Nigeria Ltd., Mr. Suleman Abdul, assured that the company would deliver a high-standard job within the projected time frame.
