The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), has approved the promotion of 471 junior staff members across various grades.
The decision was reached at the commission’s weekly meeting held yesterday, September 25, 2025, and chaired by INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
The meeting also reviewed preparations for the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election, the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT), Area Council election, and the conduct of party primaries for the Ekiti and Osun governorship polls.
According to a statement signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, a total of 515 staff were shortlisted for the exercise. Of these, 214 were promoted to Grade Level (GL) 07, 134 to GL06, 106 to GL05, and 17 to GL04.
Olumekun explained that the promotion of junior staff marks the completion of the first phase of the exercise, adding that the promotion of senior staff has already commenced.
He emphasized that promotions within INEC remain a routine exercise, guided by merit and staff conditions of service, while urging staff to remain committed to their duties, particularly in managing elections and other electoral activities.
