The Controller General Federal Fire Service, Olumode Adeyemi Samuel, said he is focused on staff welfare and repositioning of the service for the better.
He stated this on Thursday when he paid a historic working visit to the Federal Fire Service Commands- Kubwa Abuja Metropolitan Station and the Wuse Command, Abuja, alongside the Management Team of the Service.
“I have come to see things first hand so as to be able to address the challenges accordingly.”
The visit which was meant to bolster the confidence of officers was part of the CG’s move to rob minds with all the officers regardless of their ranks.
The visit was also the first of its kind in the Service’s history, and gave the CGF the opportunity to interact directly with officers and men, assess their working environment, and inspect facilities with the aim of identifying gaps and strengthening operational capacity.
While saying firefighters are called, he said firemen remain at the heart of the Service’s mandate of saving lives and property, and reaffirmed that their welfare is his topmost priority.
He charged the officers to contribute their quota in saving lives.
“I cannot do this work alone. We need all hands on deck. We need all the support we can get to revamp the service.”
He told the officers that a comprehensive insurance coverage will be made available for all firemen.
He added that, awards and recognitions will be introduced to encourage excellence and outstanding performance.
The service helmsman further assured that a conducive working environment would be provided, and loans would be made accessible to help officers meet pressing needs.
While warning them against job racketeering, he urged them to uphold discipline at all levels, saying anyone found wanting will be shown the way out.
Speaking further, the CGF said efforts are underway to integrate fire safety and rescue education into school curricula, a step aimed at raising a new generation of safety-conscious Nigerians.
