Media professionals, government officials, and peacebuilding experts have called on journalists to adopt peace journalism as a vital tool for national transformation.
This message was conveyed in a communique issued after a one-day capacity-building workshop on Peace Reporting for National Development in Kaduna on November 5, 2025.
The communique, signed by Lola Seriki, Sani Idris, Ekwenugo Juliet, and Muhammad Sabiu Danmaliki, the Chapel Secretary, on behalf of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, noted that the workshop was organized in partnership with the Global Peace Foundation Nigeria and the Kaduna State Ministry of Information.
It brought together representatives from 30 media organizations in the state, communication scholars, peacebuilding actors, and officials from government institutions and civil society organizations.
In his keynote address, Rev. Joseph Hayab, Country Director of Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, described peace journalism as the “heartbeat of transformation,” capable of fostering reconciliation, dialogue, and social healing.
He emphasized that the media has a moral responsibility to promote narratives that unite rather than divide.
