A woman identified in Minna as Comfort Jiya, whose child poured petrol and set her on fire last Monday is dead.

A relative of the deceased who confirmed her death said she passed on at about three o’clock last Friday at the Minna General Hospital where she was admitted when the incident occurred.

Her son, Steven Sule Jiya who attempted to harm her in several attempts succeeded to bathe her with petrol last Monday at her residence in Darussalam Area of Kpakungu Minna while she was in the kitchen and set her on fire.

Steven has since been sent to prison by a Minna High Court after being arraigned by the GRA Police Division in Minna over the offense.

A Relative of the accused confirmed that Steven committed the crime last Monday at about 7 o’clock pm at the residence of the mother Comfort Jiya behind Total Filling Station Durulsalam Kpakungu Minna.

He said Steven had for long been a drug addict and had on several occasions attempted to harm the mother through various ways but did not succeed until this time.

The suspect was earlier arrested after committing the act by the G.R.A Police division and arraigned before a High Court which remanded him in prison on Tuesday. 

The Mother Comfort Jiya is said to be a former Principal at Maryam Babangida Science College Minna was hospitalized at the General Hospital Minna receiving treatment.

Another eyewitness said the culprit had on several occasions threatened to kill his mother for no reason but he succeeded this time after his return from Suleja.
