Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has assured electricity consumers in its zone of a transparent and fair billing system, with the successful handover of power metering facilities to it by the government.

A statement by the Head, Public Affairs, Ahmed Shekarau quoted the Executive Director, Commercial Services of the company, Mr. Ernest Mupwaya to have given the assurance during the formal  handover of Electricity Trading Metering Points to various investors and other participants in the nation’s power sector by the Minister of Power, Professor Chinedu Nebo, on Thursday in Abuja.

Mr. Mupwaya, who represented the managing director of AEDC at the event, said the hand over of the meters provides his company with the facility to effectively monitor access to energy flow statistics from the generating companies.

This, he said, is significant in improving the services that the company will render to its customers, through better planning as well as equitable allocation of energy to its own clients.

In addition, he said, analysis and identification of portions of the network that were contributing to high losses would be enhanced, thereby resulting in efficient and effective loss reduction interventions that are necessary for stabilising electricity tariffs in the long run.

The AEDC ED also assured the government, especially the minister and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), of his company’s commitment to engendering a transparent electricity payment system to enhance consumer confidence in the power reform programme.

Mr. Mupwaya used the opportunity to commend the Nigerian government’s transparency and sincerity of purpose, in driving the Power Sector Reform and Transformation Programme.

He also commended the Market Operator for fulfilling its pledge of handing over the meter grids to the market participants, saying this was a milestone in the ongoing efforts to ensure total reform of the Nigerian power sector.
