Yes! None of us is a citizen of this World. We are but travellers from a world of the womb and passing through here to our destination via the gate of death. We are but strangers in a land that is not ours. This World, with all its glitter and glamour, is but a temporary resting abode and not our destination.
The Prophet (SAW) was reported to have said: Be in this World as though you were a stranger or a wayfarer.
No matter how much we acquire, build, or achieve in this World, it shall not accompany us beyond the grave. The only true wealth we take with us are our deeds in forms of the prayers we observed, the kindness we extended, the truth we upheld, and the sins we repented from before our departure time.
The life of this World is but a trial and a test as nothing in it lasts forever. Every moment and possession is fleeting, just like a house delicately woven by a spider which is so fragile and temporary.
Therefore, those who are blindfolded with the chase after worldly pleasures are reminded to strive with the spirit of contentment because, true peace lies not in abundance, but in gratitude and moderation.
So, let this blessed day be a reminder for us to focus on what counts for the Hereafter, the eternity. Live light, expend your time with taqwa (consciousness of Allah), and invest more in the Hereafter because, that is where our true citizenship lies and that is our true homeland.
May Allah purify our hearts from the love of this fleeting World, increase us in actions that please Him, and grant us a safe return to our eternal home in Jannah.
