Breaking: Bandits ambush police patrol, kill 5, injure 2

The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the death of five of its officers who were ambushed by bandits during an intelligence-led patrol in Sabon Sara village, Darazo Local Government Area of the state

Two other officers sustained injuries while a yet-to-be-specified number of bandits were neutralised during the exchange of fire.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Muhammed Wakil on Sunday, the Command expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss.

He explained that the incident occurred on 22nd November, 2025, at about 1130 hours, when a team of tactical operatives was attacked while on visibility policing duty aimed at preventing and managing farmer-herder conflicts in the area.

According to the statement, the ambushed personnel were drawn from multiple units, including the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), 10 PMF Bauchi, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU), and the State Intelligence Department (SID).

The attackers, identified as unidentified Fulani youths, opened fire on the officers in a sudden and violent assault.

The officers who lost their lives in the line of duty are DSP Ahmad Muhammad (SID), ASP Mustapha Muhammad (10 PMF), Inspector Amarhel Yunusa (10 PMF) and Inspector Idris Ahmed (10 PMF) as well as Corporal Isah Muazu (AKU).

Those injured are Inspector Isah Musa (SID) and Inspector Yusuf Gambo (SID).

Upon receiving the distress report, the Divisional Police Officer, SP Auwalu Ilu, led a reinforcement team to the scene, successfully rescuing the injured and evacuating the fallen officers to the General Hospital, Darazo, where the injured received treatment and the remains of the deceased were deposited at the morgue.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, later visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment and commiserated with the families of the deceased. He reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to pursue the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.

“The task has not been an easy one, but in line with our constitutional mandate, we shall remain fierce, tireless, and relentless in our commitment to the safety of lives and property,” the Commissioner stated.

He added that a number of the assailants were neutralised in the firefight, emphasizing that the Command remains undeterred in its mission to rid the state of criminal elements.

Intensive operations are ongoing to track down and apprehend all individuals responsible for the heinous attack.
