Sixteen lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly have dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), deepening the political tensions already brewing in the state.
The defection was formally announced during plenary on Friday by the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, who read out the names of the lawmakers switching parties.
In a surprising twist, Amaewhule also revealed that he himself would be joining the defecting lawmakers in leaving the PDP for the APC.
Their move marks a significant shift in the political landscape of Rivers State and is expected to trigger fresh reactions within the ruling party and beyond as the situation unfolds.
