Alleged fraud: Kwara NBA recommends suspension of ex chairman, others

The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Kwara state branch, has recommended the suspended of its immediate past Chairman, Mr. Rafiu Oyeyemi Balogun and seven others from the bar for alleged fraudulent accounting and financial embarrassment to the association.

The Bar, in a statement made available to our correspondent in Ilorin yesterday, stated that the association resolved to suspend them at the emergency meeting held on Monday, at the premises of High Court, in Ilorin.

In the press statement, signed by it General Secretary, M .A .I Akande and Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Olaitan Opoola, also directed that the affected persons be report to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), accompanied with NBA Ilorin branch reports and accounts 2011 to 2013.

“Following the dismissal of the impeachment notice as being incompetent, a vote of confidence was today 4th of August 2014 passed on the Chairman Mr. Mobolaji Ojibara by the Congress of the association, at a special meeting of the association held at the Association’s Secretariat.

“The association also resolved as follows: that Rafiu Oyeyemi Balogun Esq,Dr Ibrahim Abdulkadir Abikan, Sulyman M H Kosemani, Mrs. Temitope Ibrahim Salau, Hassan Shehu Kazeem, Dr. D A Ariyoosu and Yahyah  Alajo, who were the Chairman ,Vice -Chairman, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Secretary and Publicity Secretary respectively of the branch from 14th October 2011 to 14th. October 2013 and Alhaji Omotosho Ayeloja, a contractor for the alleged failed contract be reported to EFCC,ICPC.”

The Bar stated that their prosecution necessary due to their roles in causing the bar unprecedented financing and loss in the guise of the reconstruction of the Bar center.

The association resolved at the congress that that the mentioned persons should be reported to the Legal Practitioner’s Disciplinary Committee of the bar for trial and necessary disciplinary actions for professional misconduct and acts unbecoming of a legal practitioner.

According to the Bar’s Congress resolution, all the mentioned persons in the alleged fraudulent acts of the Bar should be immediately suspended as members of the Bar in the state and seize to further participate in the activities of the Bar.

The association specifically stated, in the congress resolution, that Dr. D A Ariyoosu, Yahyah Alajo should be suspended immediately for engaging in an unauthorised  publications in both prints and electronic media without the authority of the branch executives.
