The Zamfara State Government in collaboration with UNICEF has announced targeting 1.2 million children for routine integrated vaccination campaign across the 14 local government areas of the state.
This was declared in a media dialogue at Emergency Operations Centre Gusau on Saturday, by the Executive Secretary, Primary Healthcare Board, Dr Hussaini Yakubu Anka.
Dr. Anka, said the state government in active collaboration with donor agencies have concluded adequate arrangements for the immediate commencement of the vaccination campaign that will cover all the targeted areas with a view to ensure success of the exercise.
He said the integrated exercise is aimed at covering wide range of vaccine-related diseases amongst which Polio virus, Rubella and others have been identified.
He said, “The campaign will also cover nutritional matters”.
Dr. Anka further informed that, in efforts to ensure that no stone is left unturned towards achieving the aims, a total of well trained 1,997 teams have been formed for the coverage of the 147 wards of the 14 local government areas of the state.
He however, lamented with dismay, that the campaign is facing rejection by some communities including private schools in the state following lack of adequate enlightenment on the importance of the exercise.
