The Taraba State House of Assembly has passed a budget estimate of N653.5 billion for the 2026 fiscal year, making it the first state in the country to pass its budget for the upcoming year.
The passage of the budget came few weeks weeks after Governor Agbu Kefas presented the budget to the legislature.
Hon. John Bonzena, Speaker Taraba state house of assembly described the passage of the appropriation bill as a significant milestone, commending members of the Appropriations Committee for their diligence for working thorough day and night to arrived at the figure.
The approved budget, tagged; “Development We Can See,” allocates N457 billion for capital expenditure, representing 70.36% of the total budget, while recurrent expenditure is pegged at N192 billion, accounting for 29.64%.
Governor Kefas had earlier emphasized that the 2026 budget is anchored on impact and tangible transformation, with strategic emphasis on infrastructure development, particularly roads and transportation, as well as education and healthcare.
Bonzena urged standing and ad hoc committees of the House to intensify their oversight functions to ensure proper implementation of the budget.
