In commemoration of the 2025 National Sustainability Week (NSW), Sterling Financial Holding Company has organised a strategic media sustainability training program, aimed at empowering media practitioners with the knowledge and digital skills to remain innovatively relevant in the sector and human society at large.
It was gathered that the company through its Sustainability Working Group in partnership with Climate Africa Media Initiative and Centre (CAMIC) organised the training for selected media executives and field journalists, which kicked off on Tuesday in Abuja.
Welcoming participants to the training program, the Chairperson, Sustainability Working Group, Mrs. Bunmi Ajiboye, noted that the engagement goes beyond training, it becomes a cornerstone of how Nigeria tells her story of progress, resilience, and innovation.
She said: “Your role is so essential. As our storytellers, editors, producers, journalists, broadcasters, and digital creators , you carry the responsibility of shaping how Nigerians interpret sustainability, how policymakers understand urgency, how citizens see opportunity, and how our continent perceives its future.
“So, this training is not happening by accident. It is happening because we are entering a new era, one where sustainability is not only an environmental conversation, but a development conversation, an economic conversation, an innovation conversation, and a people conversation.”
Continuing, she stressed that
“ this movement and efforts can’t succeed without you. Your stories can ignite action. Your reporting can correct misinformation.
Your framing can inspire change.
Your platforms can amplify innovators who are solving problems quietly in their communities. Your words can influence how millions understand the most important issues of our time.
“ So, today is not just a class.
It is an invitation for you to join us as partners in shaping a future where sustainability is not a buzzword, but a lived reality for Nigerians.
“At Sterling, our journey in sustainability has been bold and intentional. From financing renewable energy solutions, to backing circular-economy startups, to supporting climate-smart agriculture, to empowering thousands of young people across the country. We’ve come to understand something powerful.
“Together, let us build a narrative that reflects who we truly are —a nation of resilience, creativity, courage, and possibility.”
The participants, drawn from reputable print, broadcast and news media organisations, who joined the training physically and virtually, received insightful presentations from Aliu Akoshile, Publisher, NatureNews Media, Akogun Ishiak Ajibola, Former MD, Daily Trust, and Victoria Bamas Editor, ICIR, respectively.
