The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has deployed 4,000 personnel across Abuja and its environs to ensure a peaceful and secure Yuletide celebration.

The FCT Commandant of the Corps, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, PhD, gave the directive as part of proactive measures to protect lives and property, as well as safeguard Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) before, during and after the festive season.

According to the Commandant, the deployment cuts across several specialised units, including the Arms Squad, Crack Squad, CNAI Unit, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) Unit, Female Strike Force, Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) and the Agro Rangers.

He said personnel have been strategically stationed at vulnerable locations and soft targets such as churches, shopping malls, recreational centres, markets, motor parks, amusement parks and areas housing critical national infrastructure.

Dr. Odumosu further disclosed that undercover operatives have already been deployed for covert operations and surveillance to prevent emergencies and unforeseen security challenges. He added that black spots, including uncompleted buildings suspected to harbour criminal elements, are also being monitored to avert security breaches.

The Commandant issued firm directives to Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to ensure effective coverage and visibility in their respective Area Councils, warning that any form of security lapse would not be tolerated.

“All hands must be on deck. I will not tolerate any form of breaches. Ensure that your personnel comply adequately,” he charged.

He also urged officers and men of the Corps to maintain professionalism, work in synergy with other security agencies and strictly adhere to the rules of engagement. He cautioned against harassment, intimidation of citizens and accidental discharge of firearms.

While assuring residents of a safe and hitch-free celebration, Dr. Odumosu called on members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movement or activities to the nearest security agency.

“My personnel are ready to ensure a peaceful celebration, but residents also have a role to play by being proactive, vigilant and cooperative with law enforcement agencies for our collective good,” he said.
