US shuts down Embassy in Nigeria

United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos has shut down public operations from Wednesday, December 24 to Friday, December 26, 2025.

During this period, both offices will remain closed to mark the Christmas holidays.

Normal services are expected to restart on Monday, December 29, 2025.

Members of the public are advised to plan visits and official business around the holiday schedule.

Recall that the Federal Government has announced public holidays for Christmas, Boxing Day and the New Year celebrations.

According to the announcement, December 25 and December 26, 2025, have been set aside to mark Christmas Day and Boxing Day, while January 1, 2026, will be observed as the New Year public holiday.

The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
