The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of six journalists from the NUJ Gombe State Council who lost their lives in a motor accident while on official duty.
In a condolence message addressed to the leadership and members of the NUJ Gombe State Council, the FCT Council said it received the news of the incident with profound shock, describing the deceased as dedicated professionals committed to the ideals of journalism.
The council noted that the journalists, who died in the line of duty, exemplified courage, integrity, and dedication to the pursuit of truth, adding that their loss was a major blow to the journalism profession and the NUJ family nationwide.
The FCT Council extended its condolences to the families of the deceased journalists, the NUJ Gombe State Council, and colleagues across the country, stating that the incident had left an irreplaceable void within the union.
“Their legacy of fearless reporting and service to humanity will continue to endure,” the statement said, while offering prayers for the repose of their souls.
The council also expressed solidarity with the Gombe State Council and all those affected by the tragedy, praying for strength and comfort for the bereaved families and colleagues during the period of mourning.
The message was signed by the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike.
