From Ayodele Samuel, Osogbo

The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday condemned the attack on journalists by suspected members of the Peoples Democratic Party loyal to its governorship candidate in the Saturday governorship election in Osun state, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

The journalists, Ayodeji Moradeyo (reporter) and Binafia Miebi (Cameraman) who are members of the TV Continental crew from Lagos were attacked and beaten up while performing their duties.

The crew officially accredited for coverage of the Saturday Governorship Election had visited the State secretariat of the PDP to make inquiries on certain issue when they were attacked, battered and later detained.

They were subsequently released on the intervention of some security operatives and leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Meanwhile, the State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress has condemned the arrest, detention and brutal attack on the crew of Television Continental in Osogbo.

The party noted that the role of the media as the Fourth Estate of the Realm is copiously entrenched in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The APC in its reaction by Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Barrister Kunle Oyatomi, said the APC as a law abiding political organisation condemned in entirety the jackboot democracy and the closure of the democratic space against Nigerians.
