KANO State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has declared that his ambition to secure re-election in 2027 is not a do-or-die affair, stressing that political power belongs to Allah, who gives and withdraws authority according to His will.
Yusuf made the declaration on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa and Balarabe Sa’idu Gani as commissioners for Information and Internal Affairs, and Solid Minerals, respectively.
The governor urged those who regard politics as a life-and-death struggle to reconsider their position, insisting that his administration believes in divine destiny and accepts whatever Allah ordains.
“Anyone who thinks our politics is a do-or-die affair should think again. We believe in destiny, whether good or bad. We believe Allah is the One who gives and the One who withholds,” he said.
Reflecting on previous electoral contests, the governor recalled that despite the setbacks suffered by his political camp in 2019, they accepted that the time ordained by God for them to assume power had not yet come.
He added that although the 2023 governorship election was characterised by challenges, including a legal battle that eventually ended at the Supreme Court, they remained convinced that their eventual victory was granted by Allah.
“2027 belongs to Allah and is in His hands. Is there anyone who can give besides Him? Since everything is in His hands, whatever He does is right,” Yusuf said.
The governor spoke shortly after administering the oath of office to the two newly appointed commissioners, whom he charged to approach their responsibilities with commitment and professionalism.
Addressing the new Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Yusuf tasked him with strengthening the state’s media machinery and ensuring the effective dissemination of government policies, programmes and achievements.
He urged the commissioner to improve coordination across the government’s social media platforms and work closely with the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking to intensify public enlightenment campaigns, particularly among young people.
Yusuf further directed him to establish stronger working relationships with ministries, departments and agencies to ensure consistent and coordinated communication of government activities.
Turning to the Ministry of Solid Minerals, the governor charged Balarabe Sa’idu Gani with tackling illegal mining through effective monitoring, strict enforcement of regulations and collaboration with relevant security agencies.
He also urged the commissioner to work with the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development and other stakeholders to attract credible investors, increase revenue generation and create employment opportunities for residents.
As part of efforts to strengthen the state’s response to security and drug-related challenges, Yusuf disclosed that his administration had established a multimillion-naira Quick Response Patrol Office, equipped with a 24-hour call and command centre, a real-time intelligence desk and specialised laboratories for drug testing and investigations.
