A youth group, Kano Youth Mobilisation for Change, on Tuesday raised concerns over what it described as growing political tension between Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and his deputy, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.

The group, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Musa Samaila Tofa, said recent statements and actions attributed to the deputy governor had sparked unease among supporters of the administration.

According to the group, the developments were being interpreted by some stakeholders as capable of straining the relationship between the governor and his deputy, with possible implications for governance in the state.

“To us, loyalty and cooperation are essential for effective governance in Kano’s political environment,” Tofa said in the statement.

He said the group was concerned that public disagreements or perceived divisions within the leadership could distract the administration from its development agenda.

The youth group urged political actors in the state to prioritise unity and collective responsibility, noting that internal discord could affect public confidence in the government.

It also called on residents of Kano State to remain calm and committed to peaceful engagement, stressing the need to support policies aimed at development in infrastructure, education and healthcare.

The group appealed to the deputy governor to reaffirm his commitment to teamwork and collaboration within the administration, in the interest of stability and progress.

Efforts to get the reaction of the deputy governor to the claims were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

The Kano State Government has yet to issue an official statement on the concerns raised by the group.
