Police arrest 1,733 suspects in Ebonyi in 2025

The Police Command in Ebonyi says it arrested a total of 1, 733 suspects in connection with 913 offences in the state in 2025.

This is contained in a statement issued by SP Joseph Ukandu, the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), and made available to newsmen in Abakaliki on Thursday.

Ukandu said the suspects comprised of 1,624 males and 109 females.

He further explained that 822 male and 22 female suspects allegedly involved in 462 cases were thoroughly investigated and charged to court.

“Some major offences within the year under review include murder, armed robbery, rape, theft, unlawful possession of firearms among others.

“In terms of operational successes, the Command recovered 35 locally fabricated single and double-barrelled pistols and long guns, seven pump-action rifles, six AK-47 assault rifles and 149 rounds of assorted ammunition,” he said.

The PPRO revealed that nine kidnapped victims were rescued, while six stolen vehicles were also recovered, including a Sino truck that was being vandalised for sale as scrap.

Ukandu quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Adaku Uche-Anya, appreciating the gallant officers of the Command, sister security agencies on the achievements made in 2025.

“The Commissioner has pledged that in 2026, the Command will consolidate on these achievements by deepening community policing initiatives.

“He also promised to strengthen synergy with sister agencies, enhance officers’ capacity through in-house training, and ensuring professionalism and civility in interactions with the public,” Ukandu said.
