Troops Kill Two Suspected Terrorists, Rescue 62 Abductees in Kebbi, Zamfara

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have killed two suspected terrorists in Kebbi State and rescued 62 abducted persons in Zamfara State during coordinated security operations.

The development was confirmed on Wednesday in a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

According to the statement, the operations were carried out in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilante groups, underscoring a joint approach to tackling banditry and terrorism in the North-West region.

In Kebbi State, troops acting on credible intelligence ambushed members of the Lakurawa terrorist group near the border between Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State and Binji Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The operation, which took place at Kerani village, resulted in the killing of two terrorists and the recovery of two motorcycles used by the group.

The military disclosed that the suspects were dressed in camouflage uniforms and were riding motorcycles padded with thick blankets. Items recovered from them indicated preparations for long-distance movement, including hand tyre pumps.

In a separate operation in Zamfara State, troops raided Munhaye Forest, a known hideout of notorious bandit leader Kachalla Alti, following intelligence reports that several captives were being held in the area. The operation led to the successful rescue of 62 kidnapped victims, who are currently in safe custody, while efforts are ongoing to reunite them with their families.

The military said rthe latest successes underscore the sustained commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and its partners to dismantling terrorist networks, restoring peace, and safeguarding lives across the North-West.
