Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) has elected Professor Bature Kawas as its candidate to contest the 2019 senatorial election for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
At the party’s primary election which was held at its headquarters in Abuja, thirty four delegates were accredited to vote, of which Kawas scored a total of thirty two votes to emerge as the consensus candidate of the party for the FCT Senate. Also, two votes were invalid for wrong voting.
Speaking shortly after he was declared winner by the national chairman of the party, Breakforth Onwubuya, who was the returning officer in the election, the senatorial candidate promised not to fail the people of FCT and accepted to fly the flag of the party in the election.
Kawas disclosed that he has assembled a team of lawyers, including a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), to prepare a Bill to accord mayoral status to the FCT, vowing that his first assignment in the National Assembly will be to present and push for the passage of the Bill into law.
According to him, having lived in the FCT for over twenty years, he discovered that despite huge infrastructural projects being executed by the federal government in the city, there is a manifest poverty among the indigenes due to lack of deliberate policy to lift them out of poverty.
