Gov. Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto state has approved the purchase of N50 million protection apparels and ambulances as part of the emergency measures against the deadly Ebola virus disease.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to Wamakko on Media, Sani Umar and issued to news men in Sokoto on Monday.
According to the statement, “the gesture was part of measures to check the Ebola virus discovered in Lagos state.”
In the same vein, the statement said that Wamakko has approved the establishment of detection centres in the three Senatorial Zones of the state.
The centres to be established in Gwadabawa, Tangaza and Shagari are for referrals and investigation purposes.
The statement further said that Noma , Specialist and Maryam Abacha women and children hospitals all in Sokoto have been designated as screening centres.
“Government has also approved the Amanawa hospital in Dange/Shuni local government is to serve as an isolation camp to referral of identified cases from the centres.
“Government has directed all the 23 local government areas to prepare to provide logistics to health facilities for any eventualities,” it added.
The statement also said that the government has approved the sensitization of the general public through the Media.
It further averred that the state was liaising with development partners on capacity building for Doctors, Nurses and other health professionals.
Similarly, the government has directed the Ministry of Health to meet with the traditional rulers on the prevention of Ebola disease.
It continued,” Government has also directed the Ministry of Health on effective surveillance and immediate notification.
“So far, so case is reported in the state. People should go about their normal businesses without panic.
