
….As Akpabio swears in 4 new Senators

President Bola Tinubu has requested Senate confirmation of Professor Arayomi Sonde-Fachina as non-career ambassador/high commissioner designates.
The President’s request was contained in a letter addressed to the Senate and read by the Senate President Godswill Akpabio at plenary on Wednesday.
According to Tinubu, the request for confirmation of appointment of non-career ambassador/high commissioner designates was in accordance with the provisions of Section 171, Subsection 1, Subsection 2, C and 4 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended.
“I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the nomination of Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina as non-career ambassador/high commissioner designate”, adding “herewith is the nominee’s curriculum vitae”.
“Whilst I hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominee expeditiously, please accept Distinguished Senate President and the Distinguished Senators the assurances of my highest consideration” , Tinubu said.
Akpabio therefore referred the request to the Committee on Foreign Affairs to refer to the Senate in one week.
Meanwhile, four newly elected senators were sworn in by the Senate President Godswill Akpabio at plenary on Wednesday.
They are Senators Halilu Danladi(Nasarawa state), Asogwa Ikeje Israel (Enugu North), Prof. Francis Fabiyi (Ondo state) and Olaka Nwogu (Rivers state).
Akpabio then handed a copy of the Nigerian constitution and Senate rules to each of the new senators and urged them to read the documents to enable them contribute effectively to debates on the floor of the Senate.
