The Chairman of the National Convention Planning Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Katsina state, Hon. Aminu Bello Masari has assured the party stakeholders that his committee will be fair and objective to ensure that the party will emerge more united ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Masari gave the assurance on Wednesday shortly after the inauguration of his committee by the National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nantawe Yilwatda.
He promised to work closely with the National Working Committee (NWC) and all relevant organs of the party for coordination and effective delivery of the exercise which he said will impact on the leadership and all members of the party.
“This committee will deliver its mandate with impartiality and collective responsibility. We wholeheartedly accept this responsibility for civility, great sense of duty and commitment to the ideals and aspirations of our great party.
“It is a platform for reflection, consolidation and renewal of commitment to sheer prosperity of the APC. And for us, it’s a greater responsibility to ensure that its process reflects orderliness, inclusiveness, transparency and respect for internal democracy”.
The former Speaker of the House of Representatives further stated that the task before the committee is clear, which is to coordinate all activities leading to a peaceful, credible and successful 2026 National Convention.
Masari who pledged to approach the assignment with fairness and strict adherence to the party’s constitution and guidelines also noted the calibre of its members.
Earlier while inaugurating the Committee, the National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nantawe Yilwatda charged the Committee to note that the Convention is not merely a gathering, but an affirmation of democratic values, celebration of internal democracy.
Yilwatda also boasted that given the successes of the APC in the Area Councils elections in the FCT and the bye-elections in Kano and Rivers states, a peaceful Convention devoid of rancour will help cement the position of the party in the general elections in 2027.
“Just last weekend, the FCT election, we did 5 over 6. And the bye-elections that produced two House of Assembly in Kano 2, and in Rivers we did 4 over 4 for the APC. And out of 65 councilors, we had 45. So it demonstrates the capacity of our party to deliver. And it shut down all the noise from the opposition that Abuja belongs to them. But we demonstrated that there is no presence of the so-called coalition in all the states that the elections were conducted”.
The APC boss however urged the Committee to rise above sentiments and ensure that they were decisive and fair to all.
“I charge you all to rise above partisan interest and personal sentiments. Let the good of this party, the colour of APC guide you in every decision that you make. Time is of the essence. And I expect nothing short of excellence from each and everyone of you. The National Working Committee (NWC) and the entire party structure will stand strong and ready to support you”.
