NGF donates N34 million to victims of Ombatse militia

Northern Governors Forum (NGF) yesterday presented a cheque of N34million to the Nasarawa state government for onward presentation to families of the deceased security agents who were killed last year at Alakyo village in Lafia local government area of Nasarawa state by members of the Ombatse militia group as part of fulfillment of the pledge made by the forum.

The NGF had made a pledge of N100m to the victims of Alakyo incident during its condolence visit to the Nasarawa state Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura in August last year.

Issuing the cheque on behalf of the Forum at a brief ceremony held at the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Paul Kolo who is the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet and Security Affairs in Niger state explained that they were in the state to redeem the first tranche of the pledge earlier made by the forum.

Mr. Paul commiserated with families of the victims and the Nasarawa state government over the unfortunate killing of the security personnel as well as prayed against the reoccurrence of the ugly incident in the Northern region and country at large.

Receiving the cheque, the Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa state, on behalf of the Governor, Hajiya Zainab Abdulmumuni, expressed gratitude to the forum for its show of concern.

She lamented that the activities of Ombatse group has posed security threats to lives and property of the citizens and commended security agents in for restoring peace in the state.
