The Kaduna State Government, led by Governor Uba Sani, has undertaken a major renovation of the Birnin Gwari General Hospital, an important healthcare facility in the state.

The hospital, which had been in disrepair for over 23 years, is undergoing comprehensive remodeling, reconstruction, and upgrades to deliver quality healthcare services to the people of Birnin Gwari and nearby communities.

Dr. Abdullahi Baba Ahmed, Managing Director of Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA), who inspected the project, said the renovation is part of the state government’s effort to improve healthcare infrastructure.

“This hospital is a major referral center, and its renovation is critical to improving healthcare services in the area,” he said.

“The contractor is working on nine blocks, with three remaining, and we expect the project to be finished within the next two months.”

The hospital’s renovation is expected to significantly impact Birnin Gwari’s health sector, especially in lowering maternal mortality rates.

Dr. Babagarba Abdullahi, the hospital’s Medical Director, said the facility has been in urgent need of renovation. “The last time this hospital was renovated was 23 years ago, and it has really taken a toll,” he said. “The upgrade will certainly improve healthcare delivery in the hospital.”

The hospital serves as a referral center for patients from neighboring states, including Niger, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto. It offers a range of services, including pediatric care, gynecology, and trauma care. The hospital also frequently treats patients from road traffic accidents.

The renovation has boosted staff morale, with many eager to provide improved healthcare services. “The environment is now conducive, and it makes our work much easier,” Dr. Abdullahi said. “Patients also feel more comfortable and can freely share their concerns and receive attention.”

The Kaduna State Government has launched several initiatives to enhance healthcare infrastructure across the state. Currently, 15 general hospitals are undergoing renovation, with 7 already completed. The government has also invested in equipping these facilities with modern medical equipment.

The renovation of Birnin Gwari General Hospital is expected to be finished within the next two months, representing a significant boost to the state’s healthcare sector. The government has called on residents to cooperate with the contractors to ensure the project’s successful completion.
