Troops foil 2 terrorist attacks on troops in Borno
Troops of the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) in the early hours of Friday, successfully thwarted two attempted terrorist attacks on troops’ positions in Borno State.
A statement issued on Friday by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer of OPHK, said the insurgents in large numbers had attempted to overrun troops locations at Azir Bridge in Sector 2 and Banki in Sector 1, but were effectively dealt with.
“The terrorists, who advanced in large numbers in a desperate attempt to overrun the locations, were met with swift and overwhelming resistance from vigilant troops.
“Demonstrating superior tactical awareness and combat raeadiness, the troops launched well-coordinated spoiling attacks that disrupted the terrorists’ assault formations and forced them into disarray.
“The engagements were further reinforced by effective close air support from the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, which contributed significantly to the successful defeat of the attackers,” Uba said.
He dismissed earlier report on the incident, describing it as false and a misleading propaganda.
“These failed attacks clearly contradict the misleading propaganda and false reports circulating on some online media platforms.
“Troops remain firmly in control of the locations and continue to dominate the operational environment with high morale, decisive firepower and sustained offensive action against terrorist elements.
“Operation HADIN KAI therefore reassures the public that the Joint Task Force remains resolute and committed to defeating all terrorist threats across the theatre of operations and restoring lasting peace to the North-East region,” the OPHK spokesman added.
