….As AMAC boss sets up c’ttee to curb spread

As part of precautionary step to contain the spread of dreaded Ebola virus disease, the chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Micah Jiba, set up committee inaugurated a technical committee to tackle the scourge, in the event of its outbreak in the nation’s capital.

This coming against the backdrop of the directive by the FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, to the six Area Council Chairmen to set up a high powered committee to tackle any possible spread of the disease in the FCT.

Jiba, who disclosed this via in telephone interview, said that prior to the ministerial directive, the council had mapped out strategies to curb the disease’s possible outbreak, considering the centrality of the council.

Commending the media for the level of awareness created, the AMAC boss enjoined journalists to sustain the tempo until cure of Ebola is found by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Jiba, revealed that the supervising councilor in charge of health and other senior primary health workers are members of the committee, adding that the committee will collaborate with other relevant bodies to achieve a positive result.

He therefore called on communities affected by any suspected case of Ebola virus to inform their members about the nature of the disease and outbreak containment measures, including burial of the deceased.
