Ebola Scare: Wowo urges residents to be calm

Date:

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory have been enjoined to be calm over the scare of Ebola as the FCT Administration has taken standard steps to contain the possible outbreak of the disease in the Territory.

Senior Special Assistant on Political, Budget and National Assembly, to the FCT minister, Sen. Jibril Wowo, made this point, while addressing youth groups, who paid a visit to him at his residence, at the weekend.

Wowo said the panic by the residents was understandable when viewed against the background of the outbreak in Lagos and the troubling dimension it has assumed with deaths whilst about eight other persons are said to be infected with the disease.

Wowo asked the residents to intensify prayers and practice hand washing regularly as advised by experts and report suspicious cases to health facilities for proper examination.

He said he believes the fear of the people is genuine based on the misunderstanding of the mode of transmission of the dreaded Ebola virus and the possibility of its prevention through disciplined observance of hygiene.

The FCT minister’s aide noted that the Federal Government and the FCTA Administration are responsible to the people, and would take all the necessary precautions as well as observance of practices that would ensure the FCT residents are not exposed to any danger of the disease.

“The comforting news from the expanded stakeholders meeting shows that the problem if it breaks in Abuja will be under control,” Wowo said.

One of the Youth leader, Olubisi Segun Secretary of FCT Non-Indigene Youth Alliance, NIYA said the assurance from the political leader is comforting to us and all the other people of the Territory.
