The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Nafiu Bala faction has adopted a consensus model to elect party executives ahead of its congresses and national convention.
The decision was announced in a joint statement issued in Abuja on Saturday by the party’s National Chairman, Nafi’u Bala Gombe, and the Board of Trustees Secretary, Rufus Ikanmi.
The party said the move was designed to strengthen unity, inclusiveness and internal cohesion among members as it prepares for a series of congresses across the country.
The leadership also declared that the party’s membership register had been opened to admit new members nationwide.
According to the statement, the membership registration exercise begins on Saturday, March 14, and will run until Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
It explained that new members are expected to register at their respective ward offices and collect membership cards from the Continuous Membership Registration Committee.
The statement clarified that the ongoing exercise was strictly for new members, noting that existing members were not required to renew their membership at this time.
“The Board of Trustees and National Working Committee have resolved to adopt consensus as the method for electing party executives at all levels,” the statement read.
It added, “This decision is taken in accordance with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act 2026 (as amended), in furtherance of our commitment to promoting unity, cohesion and inclusiveness within the party.”
The leadership expressed optimism that the consensus arrangement would encourage cooperation and collective leadership within the party.
According to the timetable released by the party, ward congresses will hold on March 19, while local government congresses are scheduled for March 24.
State congresses are expected to take place on March 28.
The party also fixed its national convention between April 3 and April 5, 2026.
It added that issues arising from the various congresses would be addressed between the events, while matters from the national convention would be resolved between April 6 and April 10.
Meanwhile, the party leadership distanced itself from the ongoing electronic membership mobilisation and revalidation exercise reportedly being conducted by members of a coalition.
The party maintained that its constitution clearly outlines the procedure for membership application.
It therefore urged members and stakeholders to disregard any unofficial registration process pending the official rollout of the party’s digital membership platform.
“The official online registration portal will be released in due course, and further announcements will be made through official party channels,” the statement added.
The party leadership thanked members and stakeholders for their continued support as preparations for the congresses and national convention progress.
