Insurgency: FG losing battle to Boko Haram, says Senator Ndume

Senator Ali Ndume has cried out again that his constituents are thrown into untold hardship due to the unabated insurgency which is destroying the North Eastern States especially Borno and Yobe States.

Speaking to journalists yesterday in Yola briefly after their sympathy visit to settlement camps of displaced Boko Haram victims in bordering states of Gombe and Adamawa, Ndume who represents Borno south constituency in the National Assembly, visibly disturbed, lamented over continued killing of innocent people by the insurgents.

“Honestly speaking, we are losing this battle to the insurgents because our people are paying dearly with their lives and properties and are at the receiving end due to improper coordination in the war.” He observed. He added that they believe in the unity of the nation, stressing that their hope in fighting against insurgents is not lost

“Our hope is not lost because we are always giving hope and we are always living in hope and praying that the insurgency will soon come to an end. This is not the first time in history of the nation that the insurgency attack is happening. It had happened before, only that the way Nigerian is handling it is quite different “.

He explained that Gwoza in his constituency is most affected, saying that most people in the community have left the place making it a shadow of itself.

“We are in Madagali, Gulak, Mubi and other villages in the borders of Borno and Adamawa to sympathize and console with our People over the loss of their beloved ones and properties. Today we will be visiting Biu and Gombe to meet with the other displaced persons there” he stated.

He opined that what is making the insurgency attack to persist might not be unconnected to the level of handling the issue. According to him, we have learnt from our mistakes of handling the

insurgency problem. If right things were done it would not had happened in the first place. Now that it has happened there is no point apportioning blame on any person or group, but this is the time to look for solution.

Ndume explained that nobody can give the accurate figure of the displaced persons noting that everybody in Gwoza with a population of over 50,000 people have deserted the town.

“The only people left in the town now are either the aged or those that has nowhere to go or sick”

He added that everybody is running with their loved ones, little property and heading to unknown destination even as the enemies continue to chase them and smite any person insight.
