The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has expressed high satisfaction with the progress of major road infrastructure projects across the capital, confirming they are on track for commissioning by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu this May.
During a comprehensive inspection tour on Wednesday, the Minister visited several strategic sites, including:
the N16 Dual Carriageway: Connecting Jahi and Gwarimpa (handled by Global Civil and Building Construction Nigeria Limited – CBC), the Airport Road–Kuje Junction: (Handled by Arab Contractors) and he Kuje-Gwagwalada Road (Section I): (Handled by Gilmor Engineering Nigeria Limited).
The Minister noted that these projects form a core part of the activities marking President Tinubu’s third anniversary in office. Wike emphasized that his administration would not relax its oversight simply because the projects look promising.
”I am generally impressed with the quality of jobs by CBC, Arab Contractors, and Gilmor. But this will not be a one-off exercise
.”We will continue to visit every one or two weeks to ensure they remain on track,” Wike stated.
Addressing a recent incident where heavy rainfall caused a temporary bridge to collapse on the Kuje-Gwagwalada alternative link road, the Minister praised Gilmor Engineering for their rapid response.
Rather than viewing the collapse as a failure, Wike pointed to the swift restoration of access as a sign of professional competence.
”One of the areas that you rate contractors is their ability to provide alternative routes during construction.
“I am happy that the contractor moved very swiftly to provide an alternative access route. That is the hallmark of a good contractor” the Minister added.
He reaffirmed that the FCT Administration (FCTA) would maintain a balance of “pressure and support” for all contractors. He stressed that the ultimate goal of governance is to provide visible, tangible improvements to the daily lives of FCT residents through high-quality infrastructure.
