As part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Week, the Sokoto State Police Command on Thursday presented financial support to the families of deceased police officers.
The event served as the culmination of a week-long series of activities in the state, preceding the grand finale scheduled to be held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
A total of N33,989,615.15 (Thirty-three million, nine hundred and eighty-nine thousand, six hundred and fifteen naira, fifteen kobo) was distributed among eight beneficiaries.
The gesture is part of an ongoing effort to support the families of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Speaking during the presentation, the Commissioner of Police for Sokoto State, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, described the occasion as both solemn and significant.
He noted that the initiative reflects the commitment of the Force’s leadership to the welfare of its personnel and their families.
“The sacrifices of our fallen officers remain invaluable and will never be forgotten,” CP Shaffa stated.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds and assured them that the Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to supporting them.
In a vote of thanks, one of the beneficiaries, Gadi Talatu, spoke on behalf of the group. She expressed profound gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police and the Sokoto State Police Command for the support, noting that the gesture would provide significant relief to the families.
She also offered prayers for the continued strength and success of the Nigeria Police Force.
