The management of the Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) has intensified efforts to boost security within the institution and its host communities through strategic collaboration with key security agencies in Zamfara State.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tukur Adamu, led members of the university’s management team on courtesy visits to major security formations, including the Zamfara State Police Command, the Nigerian Army 1 Brigade Headquarters, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Zamfara Community Protection Guards.

A statement by the institution’s Chief Information Officer, Malam Jamilu Ibrahim Gusau, said the visits were aimed at fostering stronger partnerships and enhancing security measures around the university environment.

Speaking during the engagements, Adamu said the visits provided an opportunity to formally introduce himself to the heads of the agencies, appreciate their continued support, and seek deeper collaboration to address security challenges.

“I have been briefed on the immense support and cooperation my predecessor received from your agencies, which has ensured uninterrupted academic activities despite prevailing security challenges in the state,” he said.

The vice-chancellor called for the deployment of additional security personnel to host communities where most staff and students reside, stressing the need for proactive measures to guarantee their safety.

He also assured the agencies of the university’s continued support in joint efforts to safeguard lives and property within and around the institution.

In their separate responses, the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Muhammad Bello; the Commander, 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Mustapha Jimoh; the NSCDC State Commandant, Sani Mustapha; and the Commandant of the Zamfara Community Protection Guards, AIG Muhammad Shehu Dalijan (Rtd), commended the initiative.

They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration with the university to enhance security for staff, students and surrounding communities.

The meetings also featured discussions on community sensitisation, intelligence sharing, and the adoption of proactive strategies to curb criminal activities and address underlying security challenges in the state.
