Police arrest 6 suspects over murder of two Marshals in Gombe

Date:

From David Hassan, Gombe

The Gombe state Police Command says it has arrested six persons in connection to last weekend’s gruesome murder of two Marshals of the Gombe State Agency for Community and Social Development, located behind the Palace of the Emir of Gombe.

Even though a Police Press release said it was one person that was killed, the Chief of Staff in the Gombe Government House, Alhaji Ahmed Yayari had last Tuesday called for calm in the face of the rising insecurity occasioned by the activities of the thugs in recent times which claimed two lives last weekend according to residents of the area.

According to the release made available to newsmen yesterday in Gombe, signed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Fwaje Atajiri, said the following suspects were arrested in connection to the gruesome murder and are now helping the Police to unravel the circumstance that led to the killing.

He gave the name of the suspects as: Abubakar Adamu Ibrahim, Yasir Suleiman, Usman Abdullahi, Ukasha Ahmadu, Pappa Usman and Abdulrahman Mohammed.

The Police release stated that “the killing of one person behind Emir’s Palace close to Ali Jiji’s House on 15/08/2014 was traced to be an act of hooliganism between two rival state corps marshals. Those who participated in the unwholesome act leading to loss of life of one Usman Adamu, a marshal now late, have been apprehended”.

It stated further that the rivalry witnessed among the hooligans who were hitherto branded as Kalare now gainfully employed by the State Government as marshals are now seemingly engaged in acts of hooliganism between themselves on minor issues ranging from anti-social conflicts”, the Command stressed.

The Command, therefore, promised that it will not relent in its efforts to continue in the provision of security and public safety of the people of Gombe State.

It will be recalled that barely two weeks ago, a recent clash between two rival PDP Kalare thugs resulted in the admission of six seriously injured youths at the Kumo General Hospital after a violent clash during a Sallah Durbar, a development that is causing serious concern as the 2015 elections draws near.
