From Bashir Rabe Mani, Sokoto
The Sokoto State Police Command has intensified security operations across the state in a renewed push to combat banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and other violent crimes.
The move follows strategic directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, with the Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, leading the implementation of proactive and intelligence-driven policing measures.
The Command said it has identified suspected bandit hideouts and key supply routes, deploying tactical teams to monitor and disrupt criminal activities.
Security personnel have also been strategically stationed across the Eastern and Northern zones to ensure sustained visibility policing, especially in high-risk areas.
As part of efforts to strengthen intelligence gathering, specialized units have been mobilized to generate actionable information, while stop-and-search operations and covert surveillance have been intensified in vulnerable locations.
To boost operational effectiveness, the Command is working closely with the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), Community Guard groups, and other security agencies. This collaboration, officials say, has improved intelligence sharing, coordination, and rapid response to emerging threats.
The police have also expanded community engagement, partnering with the Sultanate, traditional rulers, community leaders, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and local government authorities to reinforce grassroots security structures.
Residents have been urged to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information.
Meanwhile, all tactical units, including the Police Mobile Force (PMF), have been placed on high alert, conducting round-the-clock patrols across forests, border communities, places of worship, and other public spaces.
Supervising officers have been directed to enforce strict discipline and ensure operational efficiency among personnel, while regular situation reports are now mandatory to maintain real-time awareness of security developments.
Reassuring residents, the Commissioner of Police reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency line: 08026451719.
The Command emphasized its resolve to sustain intelligence-led operations, calling for continued public cooperation in the ongoing fight against criminal elements.
