The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, Mr. Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, has embarked on an operational tour of key security agencies in the state as part of efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and tackle emerging security threats.
The tour, conducted on Monday, aligns with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on enhancing coordinated responses to insecurity in Sokoto State and across the country.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday in Sokoto by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i.
During the visit, the Commissioner first met with the Controller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Sokoto State Command, where discussions focused on strengthening border security, monitoring migration patterns, and preventing the illegal movement of persons and arms across international borders.
He also visited the Sokoto/Zamfara Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, where deliberations centred on curbing smuggling, intercepting prohibited goods, and disrupting supply chains that could fuel banditry and other criminal activities.
The final leg of the tour involved a strategic meeting with the Director of the Department of State Services, Sokoto State Command.
The closed-door session reviewed current security threats, intelligence-sharing mechanisms, and joint operational strategies aimed at proactively tackling criminal elements.
Speaking during the engagements, the Commissioner emphasised that no single agency can effectively address the complex security challenges facing the North-West region.
He reiterated that the Inspector-General of Police has directed all commands to prioritise seamless collaboration, intelligence-led policing, and joint operations with other security agencies.
“The IGP’s directive is clear: we must break down barriers and work as a unified force to protect lives and property. This visit is not ceremonial but a commitment to operational integration,” the CP stated.
Heads of the various agencies commended the initiative, pledging their full support and reaffirming their commitment to enhanced information sharing and coordinated operations.
The tour is expected to result in a joint action framework featuring harmonised patrols, rapid response strategies, and regular inter-agency review meetings across Sokoto State.
The visit concluded with a group photograph and exchange of plaques among the participating agencies.
