Kwara police arrest suspects for unlawful possession of ammunitions

Date:

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested two suspects, Emmanuel Jerry and Umar Abdulmumeen with the third, Abdullahi at large, for unlawful possession of ammunitions.

Briefing reporters on the arrest in Ilorin on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi said the suspects were arrested on April 10.

“On the 10th of April, 2026, at about 1300 hours, operatives of Operation Harmony, Kwara State Command, acting on proactive intelligence and maintaining strategic stop-and-search operations along Ajase-Ipo Road, intercepted a suspicious unregistered Toyota Previa vehicle attempting to gain entry into Kwara State from Kogi State.

“The vehicle, notably painted in multiple irregular colours (wine, ash, and yellow), immediately aroused suspicion, prompting a comprehensive search of its occupants and conveyed items.

“During the search, a total of 98 rounds of live ammunition, comprising 20 rounds of assault ammunition and 78 rounds of AK-47 ammunition were recovered,” Ojo explained.

The Commissioner said the ammunition was concealed within a bag of garri, in an apparent attempt to evade detection and facilitate illegal movement across state lines.

Ojo disclosed that subsequent intelligence -driven operations led to the arrest of one Umar Abdulmumeen who was identified as a key facilitator in the illegal arms transaction.

He added that investigation revealed that the suspect had received the sum of ₦1,300,000.00 (One Million Three Hundred Thousand Naira) from one Abdullahi currently at large, for the procurement of the said ammunition.

“The suspects currently in custody are cooperating with ongoing investigations and have provided credible and actionable intelligence, which is being actively exploited by the Command.

“Concerted efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the criminal network and to fully dismantle the syndicate,” the Commissioner said.
