2027: ADC slams ‘false’ PRP alliance talks

• Accuses INEC, APC of undermining democracy

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has denied reports of any ongoing alliance talks with the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), warning that such claims are deliberate attempts to mislead the public and weaken the opposition ahead of a crucial court verdict.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, dismissed the reports as “categorically untrue,” insisting that the ADC leadership is not engaged in any form of negotiation with any political party.

The party went further to allege political interference in its internal affairs, accusing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and “agents of the ruling party” of orchestrating illegal actions against its leadership.

“Our attention has been drawn to a story claiming that the ADC is in talks with the PRP in anticipation of a court judgment. This is false and misleading,” Abdullahi said.

He stressed that the party’s immediate focus is on challenging what it described as unlawful interference, maintaining that securing justice in court remains its top priority.

“We are fully committed to ensuring that the illegal action taken against our leadership by INEC and other agents of the ruling party is overturned. This is critical to safeguarding the rule of law and the survival of multiparty democracy in Nigeria,” he stated.

While reiterating the party’s openness to a broader opposition coalition, Abdullahi cautioned against what he described as speculative narratives suggesting the ADC may abandon its structure or merge with another party.

“Any suggestion that we are considering abandoning the ADC is preemptive and should be ignored,” he added.

The party also expressed confidence in the judiciary, urging it to withstand pressure and uphold democratic principles at what it described as a “defining moment” for Nigeria’s political system.
