The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has disclosed a surge in high-level defections and interest from politicians across the country, signaling what may be an early wave of realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

National Chairman of the party, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, revealed that the party has been inundated with requests from politicians seeking to join its ranks, describing the development as unprecedented in recent times.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, monitored in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed said the growing interest reflects deep cracks within existing political platforms and a shift toward alternatives perceived as credible.

“In the last three or four weeks, you will be amazed at how many people have reached out to us saying they are coming over,” he stated.

He made it clear that the PRP is positioning itself as a refuge for disenchanted politicians and a rallying point for broader opposition forces, especially those who believe their current parties have been weakened or compromised.

“Our doors are open to anyone willing to join—whether they are coming on their own or because the system has blocked and virtually destroyed their party,” he added.

The PRP chairman hinted at a significantly expanded role for the party in the months ahead, suggesting that its influence in shaping the opposition landscape could be far greater than previously seen.

“We see our role in the next few months as far greater than anything we have done before,” he said.

Dismissing claims that new entrants are merely political opportunists, Baba-Ahmed insisted that the party’s ideological foundation remains its strongest attraction.

“They are not coming as political refugees. They are coming because we are a party of principles,” he said.

He also invoked the party’s long history, noting that its decades-old existence has been defined by consistency in values and political ideology.

While acknowledging the time constraints in converting momentum into structure, Baba-Ahmed expressed confidence that Nigerians are increasingly receptive to a credible alternative.

“We know Nigerians are ready for real change in how this country is run,” he said.

He added that while the party is engaging prospective members, it has set clear conditions, emphasizing that interested politicians must formally join the PRP before any substantive political discussions can begin.
