• President nominates Darma as minister designate

President Bola Tinubu has relieved the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, of their duties in a cabinet reshuffle.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) announced the development, noting that Edun has been replaced by Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, while Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma will take over from Dangiwa.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle in the membership of the Federal Executive Council,” the statement read.
According to a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the two cabinet members are to exit their roles immediately following the naming of their replacements.
The Chief Press Secretary to the SGF, Mr. Yomi Odunuga, relayed the directive in Abuja.
Until this development, Wale Edun served as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
He has been directed to hand over his duties to Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who previously served as a Minister of State in the same ministry.
Similarly, Mr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD) has been named the ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
Outgoing minister Dangiwa has been instructed to hand over the ministry’s affairs to the Minister of State.
The memo specified that:
“All handing over and taking over processes should be completed on or before the close of business on Thursday, 23rd April 2026.”
Odunuga quoted Senator Akume explaining that the President’s decision is part of a strategic move to improve administrative efficiency.
“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance, as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy for Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Akume stated.
The SGF further noted that in approving the reshuffle, the President fully exercised his powers as conferred by Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended).
The President expressed his gratitude to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavors.
However, he also issued a caveat to the remaining cabinet members, assuring them that “the process of reinvigoration shall be continuous.”
