The Federal Government has launched the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) as part of efforts to improve staff welfare, enhance workplace safety, and increase productivity across the Federal Civil Service.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, made this known during the inauguration of the ECS Help Desk in Abuja. She described the scheme as a critical initiative designed to provide prompt compensation and support to civil servants affected by work-related injuries, illnesses, disabilities, or death.
She explained that the ECS complements existing welfare programmes such as the Group Life Assurance Scheme, while broadening protection for employees and their families. According to her, the initiative underscores the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to protecting the welfare and dignity of public servants.
To ensure smooth implementation, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).
The Managing Director of NSITF, Barr. Oluwaseyi Mayomi Faleye, described the scheme as a significant move toward establishing a structured system of care and protection for civil servants, backed by a transparent, payroll-based framework.
He added that the ECS Help Desk will serve as a hub for information, claims processing, and feedback to improve service delivery.
The introduction of the ECS represents a major milestone in strengthening workforce protection and promoting a more responsive and efficient Civil Service.
