NUC accredits undergraduate, postgraduate programmes at UDUS

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has accredited twelve undergraduate academic and two postgraduate programmes at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto
(UDUS), following the October/November 2025 accreditation exercise conducted by the Commission.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday in Sokoto by Ismaila Mohammed Yauri, Director, Information and Public Relations.
According to the Commission’s official report, none of the programmes was denied accreditation.
He said that thirteen programmes received full accreditation status and will be due for re-accreditation after five years.
They were: BSc Marketing; BSc Taxation; BSc Entrepreneurship and Innovation; BA Shari’a; BSC Cyber Security; BSc SoftwareEngineering; BEng Mechanical Engineering and BSc Criminology and Security Studies.
Others were: BSC Demography and Social Statistics; BSc Nutrition and Dietetics; Doctor of Physiotherapy; Masters in Accounting and Finance; and Masters in Treasury Management.
In the same vein, one programme, Doctor of Optometry, received interim accreditation status, which implies that the programme will be due for re-accreditation after two years.
The statement said that the accreditation followed the NUC’s visit to UDUS in October/November 2025, during which panels assessed academic content, staffing, physical facilities, and the Abdullahi Fodiyo Library Complex.
The Commission commended the University’s level of preparedness,
organisation, and availability of relevant resource materials for the programmes.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bashir Garba, described
the outcome as “a clear vote of confidence in the quality assurance culture institutionalised at UDUS.”
“These accreditations in critical fields such as Cyber Security, Software Engineering,Taxation, and Criminology and Security Studies aligned UDUS with Nigeria’s national priorities
in the digital economy, financial accountability, and public safety.
“We are grateful to the NUC for its rigorous evaluation and to the Federal Government for its continued support for higher education,” Prof. Garba said.
He added that UDUS, which recently matriculated 6,505 students for the 2025/2026 academic session, will immediately implement all NUC recommendations, including
enhanced staff development, e-library upgrades, and strengthened industry partnerships.
