2027: Amadi raises alarm over ADC crisis

Date:

  • …urges Obi to consider alternative platform

By Musa Baba Adamu

A fresh dimension has emerged in the unfolding crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as former chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Sam Amadi, warned that the party may face possible proscription ahead of the 2027 elections.

Amadi, in a post on X, advised the party’s leading presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, to urgently consider a “plan B” if he intends to remain on the ballot.

He alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government could deploy both the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the courts to move against the opposition party.

The warning comes amid an ongoing leadership crisis rocking the ADC, which has become a rallying platform for opposition figures seeking to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

According to Amadi, internal wrangling within the party could create an opening for external forces to act, urging stakeholders to act swiftly.

“While you are fighting over primaries and positions, the ruling government, through INEC and the courts, may proscribe ADC,” he said, adding that signals of such a move had already emerged from insiders familiar with electoral processes.

He further claimed that the current administration may prefer a scenario where Obi is excluded from the ballot, stressing the need for strategic political repositioning.

The remarks add to growing concerns over the stability of opposition platforms ahead of the next general election, particularly as intra-party disputes continue to threaten cohesion within the ADC.
